Joseph C. Blanton, Jr. practices primarily in the areas of federal court litigation, medical malpractice and products liability defense, commercial litigation, transactions and estate planning. He is a graduate of Sikeston High School, the University of Virginia and the University of Texas School of Law. From 1985 to 1987, he served as law clerk to the Honorable Stephen N. Limbaugh, Sr., U.S. District Judge for the Eastern and Western Districts of Missouri.
Blanton has significant first chair jury trial and non-jury trial experience He has represented clients in federal courts in Missouri, Arkansas, Illinois, Tennessee, and the District of Columbia. He is admitted to practice in the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit and the District of Columbia Circuit as well as the United States Supreme Court.
He is rated AV by Martindale-Hubbell and was designated a Missouri Super Lawyer by Law and Politics Magazine in 2006.
He is a former member of the Board of Governors of The Missouri Bar. He submitted briefs on behalf of The Missouri Bar in the U.S. Supreme Court and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit in Republican Party of Minnesota v. Suzanne White, et. al. Blanton served as a member of the Missouri Supreme Court Rules Committee for six (6) years.
Blanton is a member of the board of directors of Montgomery Bank, NA. He is a former president of the Sikeston Jaycees, the Sikeston Jaycee Bootheel Rodeo Association and the Sikeston Rotary Club. He served as a member of the Sikeston Board of Municipal Utilities from 1996 through 2005.
He is a member of the American Bar Foundation and has been honored by the Missouri Jaycees as one of Ten Outstanding Young Missourians and by the Sikeston Jaycees with their Community Service Award and Distinguished Service Award. In 2005, he received the President’s Award from The Missouri Bar.
He is currently serving as chairman of the Justice for All fund-raising campaign for Legal Services of Southern Missouri, Charleston Section.
He is married to Felicia Richmond Blanton. They have one son, Mark David Blanton, age 13.
